Emily Zang: The Rise of the Spider Woman

"Emily, remember what I always say: With great power comes great responsibility," Uncle Joe said, kneeling beside her as she stared at the broken window. It was a rainy afternoon, and the Mad City outside echoed the struggles of the Great Depression. The little girl watched him repair the old wooden frame, his strong hands so steady and calm. "You must learn to stand tall even when the world tries to push you down. Never forget who you are!" he urged, dusting off his clothes with a proud smile. Little did they know how those words would change her life forever!

Fast forward to New York in 1933, and sixteen-year-old Emily Zang had transformed into a tall girl with long, dreading hair, rich butter pecan skin, and those unique epicanthic folds inherited from her Ishongo lineage. She ambled through her busy neighborhood, a mix of excitement and resentment surrounding her. "Em, are you okay?" her dear friend Michael asked, concern deep in his dark eyes as they lingered near the Harlem store. Emily sighed, excited yet anxious about the secrets unfolding in the heart of the city. She was on a mission; Uncle Joe's memory burned in her heart like fire. Determined to find justice for him – and maybe even procure some spider powers to fight back against the villains lurking in shadows – she set her sights on the dark underbelly of her city, drawing strength from the mentorship she cherished as she stepped into a new world. "Justice is coming, Uncle Joe!" she whispered to herself, her heart pounding with vibrant anticipation.

"Michael, I must speak to Robbie Smith about this gang we heard rumors of. They say their leader might be connected to Uncle Joe's murder!" Emily exclaimed one afternoon, her determination evident. "It’s too dangerous, Em! What if they find you?" he warned, a shiver running down his spine. Emily shook her head in defiance, those dimples appearing as she replied, "Someone has to fight for justice! Uncle Joe wouldn’t want me to hide." Her eyes beamed with unyielding fire, ready to take her first steps into danger. Little did she know, a bite from Anansi's spider at the museum would alter the course of her journey entirely!
